Today was perhaps the most beautiful morning I've experienced in Berlin. The sun was out, the mists were rising on the river, it was perfect running temperature outside, a little cool, but warm in the sun.
Tell me this isn't one of the most beautiful places on the planet? Actually that was a major part of the conversation at the City Council last night, so I must not be the only one who thinks this way. There is something about the light and the mountains that is just magical. This was what the river looked like as I was crossing the pedestrian bridge.
And of course, I had to pass my favorite garden on the way home. I don't know the gardener's name, but she's one determined lady, bringing color and beauty to every square inch of her lot. She claims she has the worst dirt in town, but on this tiny lot she manages to grow tomatoes, a lovely cascading rock garden and some gorgeous flowers
My favorite trick that I learned from her is that she throws all of her excess perennials onto the vacant lot next door so that they come back in wild profusion the next year. Ten points if you can guess where it is... Hint: it is somewhere along this running route:

Astoria Column.....
Bennington Battle Monument.....
Burgess Mill Stack???
The Astoria Column ( http://www.oldoregon.com/Pages/AstoriaColumn.htm )and the Bennington Monument ( http://www.bennington.com/chamber/walking/monumentdescription.html ) Are both tourist destinations that allow sightseers to get a view of the surrounding countryside from 100'-200' above ground level.
Can you imagine the view from the top of the 300'+ stack at the north end of the property (the old #9 boiler stack) Before clamoring to take down every brick on the old mill property, imagine an observation platform 300' up with commanding views of the presidential range, the Mahoosucs and the Androscoggin Valley. For those of you who want to see the mill re-developed as anything besides an industrial site, just think of the people who would be drawn to the tallest structure in NH (city hall plaza in Manchester is currently listed as the tallest building in NH). Throw in a whitewater park along the drop in the river from the riverside dam to mason street, some walking/biking /ski trails, a few ball fields.
Whadaya think?

It means alot to me to know that Katie has the passion and pride to stop and take pictures of something she finds beautiful. Its this same passion that drives her to speak her mind, to fight for what she thinks is right. Katie you have the heart of a leader and I admire your actions and thoughts. Thank you for all that you do.

I agree with your opinion that the views looking down the valley is probably the most spectacular in the state. Katie, I can tell you who/what/where with the flower garden, but save the points for someone else who may be looking.
