Safe papers are readable in minutes. Reporting of this kind lacks a human touch, save of course the infamous John Walsh, and covers editor opinion only through partial reporting of the news. Perhaps the pay is not enough for their reporters to research and come across as human beings rather than computer generated AP style accomplishments absent of voice.

I have always said we have an excellent newspaper, for the size of our community, but there is truth to their bias and it compromises their ability to tell the whole story. By ONLY telling the story of our, less than proacitve, politicians and city employees and disrespecting and de-legitimizing action groups and organizations they actually compromise democracy. Media is one of the most important tools of democracy and only reporting what our local councilors and employees are not ever going to do about that mill site is a cowardly way to esure the writers are always friends with their councilors and do not get mixed up in all that nasty controversy. Controversy which is actually democracy, democracy that may save Berlin in the face of a Mayor and Council "in the closet" on the mill issue. They all need to Come out of the "Closet".

Unfortunate.

Allen, Yes open to the public. Press continues to lack interest.

Jon
Are the "Citizns For a New Vision" meetings open to the public. Has any press ever attended any of the groups meetings?

An urgent message to the owners and reporter of the Berlin Daily Sun,

Barbara and Mark,
The reporting on the Laidlaw company in your local paper, in my opinion, is
missing information that needs to be provided to the community. The "news"
in yesterday's Sun is but another example of failed attempts by the Laidlaw
company to acquire the Burgess Mill Site land. The purchase of this parcel
has been delayed by several months for numerous reasons. The announcement of
yesterday's financing is nothing more than a potential financing package
conditional upon huge contingencies. The Laidlaw company has been sited on
a number of different occasions, but not by your paper, as a questionable
penny stock company that does not currently own any energy producing
facilities, and yet time and time again, the reporting in your paper makes
this company sound as though they are more than viable. Your paper has been
provided with valid negatives as regards this company and has failed to make
those points public. This potentially "proLaidlaw" reporting that fails to
provide huge issues of risk with this company could very well be at the
expense of other very viable companies that are given little to no deserved
coverage locally.

As an advertiser in your paper, on a regular basis, I very much appreciate
our working relationship and I have concerns as regards many issues the
effects advertising one side of the story has on our City. I really want to
meet with both of you on this issue as soon as possible and encourage you to
do some research with ISO New England, meet with the Citizens for a New
Vision Group, speak with Mel Liston of Clean Power Development, and truly
get more of a complete picture on what is going on here. I truly feel this
Laidlaw company is holding Berlin hostage in much the same way the company
held hostage and threatened suit against Ellicotteville NY. My daughter came
home yesterday from a history class stating that her teacher discussed the
inevitability of Laidlaw coming to town yesterday as a result of your
article and my concern for that discussion is that the news coverage is NOT
entirely accurate and is being used to educate our children. The people of
Berlin rely on your paper in many cases for education; when it reaches our
schools and it is not entirely accurate it further concerns me. The Berlin
Daily Sun reporters truly need to share additional information that is
readily available to the community in my opinion. Please let me know as soon
as possible when we can meet to discuss these matters. Below is an
interesting link to some thoughts from a Laidlaw investor on his/her own
blog that should provide you with some of my concerns in a very unbiased
manner. Thanks Barbara and Mark.
