It's Coos vs Coos in the first ever desk to fish contest!

Okay, so they have the Ocean, but we have the mighty Androscoggin, AND the Connecticut Lakes and a bunch of wonderful secret fishing holes. "They" being those folks on the left coast who insist on rhyming "Coos" with "booze."  I'm talking Oregon's  Coos Bay. In an amazingly syncrhronistic twist of fate, their promoter in chief and blogger is also named Katherine (okay she spells it with an e)  and she was kind enough to invite me to what has to be the best hospitality suite party I've ever been to in some 30 years of conference going. The Sothern Oregon Vacation Associaion annually hosts an after hours party for attendees of the Oregon Govenor's Conference on Travel and Tourism and feeds attendees the most fabulous wines from its wine country, and other delights such as smoked goose and salmon and fresh crab, never mind fabulous cheeses all made in and around Coos Bay.
So my first thought was, why aren't we doing the same thing?  It's not like the only thing we know how to do is make paper. We make wooden toys, and maple syrup, and smoked venison and trout and fabulous bread... where is the showcase for Coos County's regional talents?  Yes we have the North Country trade show which is great, but we need to do it in downtown Boston not Berlin. You have to go where the pocketbooks are.  Better yet, put it on wheels (a retired logging truck?) and take it to New York.

But I realized it might take a while and it would still be hard to top the delights of this brand of Coos Cuisine, so I started contemplating the things we do better.. and right away I thought of fishing. We tell people that we're recruiting that you can catch a fish within 15 minutes of leaving your desk, but we  haven't actually tested the theory. So I challenged these left-coast Coosiers to a race --  who can hook a fish on a line in less time, starting from a desk in an office.  And they took me up on it. ! All goog clean fish up this end of the river! The View is much better as well, no mill site obstructing.

I have to say that driving south with the old ADMIN building down the view of the Presidentials is getting pretty to see - one more step! oops!

I'll start working on the fishing thing. Don't know if I can get video proof though. I have a hard enough time convincing people when I actiually do catch a fish...
